he was my professor. he’s not a bad or racist guy in real life. but i do have to admit this book is a little biased and I am asian if that is of any importance. enjoy. This book is very long and he uses tons of resources which I assume are slighly biased as well

This book is a travesty and a testament to the ways in which the near militant multiculturalism of today’s college campuses is effectively altering and distorting history to suit its political agenda. Isn’t it Takaki’s responsibility, as a History professor, to accurately portray history as it happened, and analyze it from a modern moral perspective, rather than letting that modern moral perspective rewrite history? How can a book that tries so hard to tell EVERYONE’S story completely exclude the experiences of America’s largest ethnic group, German-Americans? How can Takaki possibly justify his depiction of Japanese-American soldiers as being the sole liberators of the Nazi concentration camps in Europe? If you know nothing about American History, don’t read this book. If you think you’re somewhat knowledgeable, read it just to see how biased it is.

I hated this book. Needed it for a “multicultural awareness in education” class. It was boring, hard to follow, difficult to understand and written in some sort of “language” that only Einstein could comprehend.

Many aspects of the book were completely vague and unfairly biased. This book is less informative than it was an attack against Anglo-Saxons of America. It is obvious that Takaki has personal issues against white people and is a flaming racist.He glorifies the bad behavior of certain minorities and embellishes, in a bad light, the identical bad behavior of certain whites.This book is a complete waste of time for those interested in a fair account of history. He simply perpetuates the problems that we have been trying to get away from. If one is looking for an unbiased account of history that focuses on facts and not agenda based rhetoric, I would suggest passing on Takaki.

I particularly like the sidebars featured in the book and the lots of background information that may be implemented in class. I don’t think history can be presented much better than done in Farah’s book.

I am a grade nine student and I feel like this book could be better. It is mainly centered on Europe and the order of the book makes it more confusing than it needs to be. For example, in one paragraph, the book will talk about a ruler that died in 645 B.C. In the next chapter, it will continue to talk about the already deceased ruler, and what he did 20 years prior. If you can handle this, order away. If just that confuses you, I’d stay away from this one.

I am a sophmore and I am taking world history. We currently are using this book and i find that it is informative and very helpful in the learning of other cultures. This book contains many interesting facts about world history and holds my attention.

I ussually a student from ninth grade. I like this book because it focuses in all cultures of the world and is a very interesting. It taughts you how to be a better human being by talking of the decissions of all the leaders and rulers. I recomend it for all schools, teachers and students.

I THOUGHT THIS BOOK WAS A STEP ABOVE THE REST OF THE BOOKS THAT WE’VE READ IN WORLD HISTORY OVER THE YEARS, AND I FIND THIS BOOK THE BEST HISTORY BOOK EVER! I LIKE HOW INTERESTING IT CAN BE. SOMETIMES I READ PARTS OF IT JUST FOR FUN. BRAVO!
